Scientist Series
At the Howard University NASA University Research Center Beltsville Center for Climate System Observation, we facilitate a guest scientist lecture series with high schools in Prince George's County, MD and the District of Columbia and enlist scientists from NASA/GSFC Earth Science Division and faculty and graduate students from HUPAS to give lectures in schools within these systems. One may also buy book reports there, in case the topic is related to the educational themes.
Princess George's County schools are heavily populated with students from traditionally underrepresented groups. Reaching this group is critical to realizing our program goals. Our focus reflects our interrelated goals of enhancing research and scholarship by producing the nation’s next generation of African American scholars.
Recognizing that it is often a challenge for scientists and college faculty to communicate effectively at a pre-college level, we design templates for these presentations of URC and NASA/SMD related sciences as part of the URC Teacher Partnership Program. Student visits to the Howard University Beltsville Campus are coupled with the K-12 Visitation Program. During this time, the students are prepped about upcoming visits to NASA Goddard Space Flight Center (GSFC) and the Beltsville Campus.
