About the Program

BCCSO provides a unique opportunity to gain valuable educational and research experience. This hands-on program is designed to mentor and cultivate today’s young science leaders and strengthen their understanding of atmospheric processes and prepare them for future career opportunities in the STEM fields. Am I eligible to apply for a BCCSO Fellowship/Scholarship/Internship?

If you are currently an undergraduate (minimum GPA 3.0) or graduate student (minimum GPA 3.2) enrolled in a physics, atmospheric science, chemistry or electrical engineering program and you are a US citizen, you may apply.

Please note that Graduate Fellowships and Undergraduate Scholarships are for students currently enrolled at Howard University or for students who have been accepted by Howard University Dean of Admissions and will be attending in the current academic year.

Summer internships are open to qualified students, both graduate and undergraduate. STEM students do not have to be enrolled or plan to attend Howard University in order to be eligible for a summer internship.

Before you begin the application process, get organized and have the following materials ready to go.

After you submit your application, if you are being considered for an award, you will be contacted by the program office and asked to submit items 2-5 listed below.

ADMISSION POLICY

Only those individuals whose qualifications match the current needs of the program will be considered applicants and will receive a response from the Howard University Beltsville Center for Climate System Observation. Rolling admission is a policy that may be used by the program to admit graduate students. Please check with the program office for details.
